Our girls group in Cape Town, South Africa, is formed by the girls who live in the homes of “Ons Plek”. In Africaan “ons Plek” means “Ons Plek” “our home”. The group consists of around 30 girls under the age of 18.
At Ons Plek, girls who have been exposed to violence, poverty without shelter and other serious challenges find a new home. Residents get support from Ons Plek to get over their unfortunate experiences. The girls’ homes are very modest and the girls live under very simple conditions. For this reason, intombi e.V. frequently supports the group with materials for improving the equipment, such as blackboards or books.
The girls are looked after by social workers and educators. Every year, the Ons Plek team is joined by an intombi volunteer for several months, helping the girls in their everyday life, offering recreational activities and organizing excursions. In addition, our volunteer brings the Ons Plek group into digital exchange with our other intombi-girls. Blogger sessions are regularly offered, where girls can reflect on themselves, share their own experiences with other girls, and work for others.
