Later, I’m going to…
Every child has this one dream about the future profession. The ideas can change over the years, but this first career wish will never be forgotten. What was it with you?
My dream was to become a vet. I grew up on a farm and learned how to handle animals from an early age. And also, that these animals were not only there to be cuddled, but also for a purpose in our agriculture. And when they weren’t feeling well, my parents always had to come up with something. We lived in Russia at that time in a very rural area where there were no veterinarians. My dog Janosch still benefits from this experience and knowledge today. I didn’t become a veterinarian, I became a social worker. I’m happy about that.
I didn’t become a veterinarian, I became a social worker. I’m happy about that.
.What is your #afterschooldream?
At the Girls’ Culture Day on June 15th in 2019, the girls simply inspired us to talk about their own dreams of the future.
The Girls’ Culture Day in Cologne is an important event for intombi to exchange ideas about work with other social institutions and above all to get in touch with girls and young women from Cologne.
The dreams of the future very quickly turned into concrete career ideas. We were particularly fascinated by diversity and passion for these dreams
.From lawyer to policewoman and much more
The profession of a doctor was very popular, whether general practitioner, pediatrician or veterinarian.
- “I want to be a vet because I want to help animals do well.” Maleen (10)
- “I wish everyone health” Nada (13)
- “I want to be a pediatrician because I want to help children.” Eliora (11)
Conny (16) would like to become a psychologist because she wants to help other people with their problems. “I like to listen to others and held find solutions to problems.”
Among the visitors was a budding journalist and writer. “I enjoy writing because I like to report about things and can explain them well. I write stories in my spare time and find that I can describe feelings of others very well.” (Pari, 13)
Thea (13) want to provide justice as a politician or save lives as a firewoman.
Make dreams come true
And so were artistic dreams of the future. Fanny (10) dreams of becoming a car designer because she likes to be creative. Mila (9) wants to become a dancer and is now already three times a week in the dance school.
As a future teacher, it is important for Ronja (11) to impart knowledge.
One girl especially touches us: Her most fervent wish is to see her brothers and sisters again. She was only been living in Germany for a short time and her siblings are currently living in different countries.
.It is not always that easy
“What should I do? I want to do the right thing. But what’s the right thing to do? I don’t know. I don’t want to disappoint my parents. But accepting to be unhappy?
I’m just at a point where I find out what I want, what my goals are etc. It’s hard not to know exactly what you want. Everyone always wants to know what you want, what your goals are. But I don’t know that right now. My tip: Don’t let other influence your!” (Dana, 23)
It’s moments like these
The encounters with the girls and young women inspired us once again. It has shown us how valuable it is to create a platform for young people to talk about their own history. Everyone can profit from this. The lively atmosphere was contagious, warm and fun for all of us. We are grateful for your trust and openness, it takes courage to talk about your dreams.
We say WOW and are already looking forward, to many more encounters.
.What’s your future dream? When was the last time you told anyone about this?
.Yours, Valentina
